1. Okay, here’s my journey. My very first jobs an a developer were contract gigs I got through an agency. I didn’t have any experience in tech, and that was the easiest way for me to get some. I contracted for about a year. Girasol_Mary/1309538452174766080

One of contract jobs turned into a permanent one, and I stayed there for a couple of years. At least until I realized I was underpaid and they didn’t care to correct it.

I met a recruiter for ibmdesign at a conference, and I started the application process. A month or so later, I was hired.

At the same time, I had been doing more conference talks myself, and I met another speaker who used to work for Obama in 2012. Apparently he kept track of me after that. This is important for later.

In March 2015, I was approached by HFA about a role on the campaign. They got my name through the speaker I met all those months ago. And in April 2015, they hired me.

I was referred to my current company (hi SlackHQ) by a few different people, and I went through the normal interview process. I guess they liked me, cause here I still am.
